June 11-12, 2010
The First International Conference on Queer Diaspora, initiated and organized by the Division of Women’s and Gender Studies at the Population and Gender Studies Center, National Taiwan University, will take place in Taipei (Taiwan), June 11-12, 2010.
“Queer Diaspora” intervenes at the intersection of queer studies and diasporas studies. It explores how the conditions of geographical mobility produce new experiences and understandings of sexuality and gender identity on the one hand, and how the (hetero-) normative and queer articulations of subjectivity emerge in those trans-national and cross-cultural movements on the other hand.
As we are “queering” diasporas it is important to examine the critical slippage between queer and diasporas, the new articulations of normative and subversive subjectivity emerging from the material, geographical and ideological displacements of globalization.
In order to stimulate fresh researches and discussions on these core issues of queer diasporas, our first conference will focus on “queering trans-nationalism” in particular. We thus look enthusiastically to papers and workshops addressed to the agenda.
